Blog design

Ok, so the last 2 days I have been trying to make my blog really cool. I wanted to show my creative side by adding my own personal touch to the blog. But let me tell you that I have been looking at tutorials for about 2 whole days. I think I have neglected my family (probably not because everyone did get a bath) and have just focused on this blog. I have become ADDICTED!!!!

I love researching things just to make sure I know all my options before really taking the nose dive in and changing anything. Well after I added a new background I thought it looked pretty cute until I found another tutorial about changing this and changing that. Then I found these cute headers and post dividers. This morning I had the whole blog so cute- then I changed things again and POOF just like that it all messed up and I can't figure it out. If you don't know I am a NP- I practice medicine not computers. SOOOO this is not my language. They say doctors talk in a different language- yeah right!

That is what I have been up to- besides putting up all the Christmas decorations. I have been successful in this task at least. The whole family pitched in and put things away and up in the attic. Done and cleaned up until next year. It makes me feel so good to clean up all the decorations and put it away. It is nice to go into the New Year ready. Speaking of New Year's do you have any resolutions? I am thinking that I need to start putting myself first. I am not saying that my children aren't always going to be first but I need to start thinking about my health first and what makes me happy. I have friends who go on date nights every week. I go out to dinner about once a month if I'm lucky. So my resolution is to focus on me and make sure I get to the doctor's- I would like to go the dermatologist and get a skin check, a few massages this year, the gyn and the primary MD. So I will stick with mine and hopefully you are ready to bring in the New Year and be safe tonight.

Gifts

We had a wonderful Christmas filled with food, family and of course gifts! I don't know how you feel when you give a present and have spent so much time wrapping it and it only takes them about 1 min to tear it open. Gone went your beautiful bow you spend so much time and money on to make sure it was perfect. You are so proud of the color matching you did this year- am I right? Well that is how I felt this year- like each present I wrapped was a masterpiece- my baby- and I had to watch each person just tear into it like the bow didn't matter. Oh well, I guess it was still fun. Maybe one day someone will realize the time I put into their present.

I don't know about you all but I spend so much time thinking about the perfect gift for my children. Something they really want and have been asking for, something that is going to make them just light up with joy on Christmas morning. I love giving gifts. Some people in my family are a little harder to shop for because they already have quite a bit and I don't want to buy them something I just think is cute but something that they are going to love, so they get a gift card to their favorite store. Usually that works because I love having a gift card to my fav store and then they have a good sale- YAY ME.

Anyways, I received a few really cool gifts this year. Of course the hand made ones from the school age children- which are my fav and just adorable.

This is my wonderful and amazing iRobot- Roomba. I can schedule it to clean while I'm sleeping or gone. Isn't that so cool. I can now focus on my family more and having fun instead of sweeping & vacuuming all the time. I swear I did that 4 times in one day the other day.

This is Justin Bieber, in case you did not know, he is with my daughter and no he is not the real one but a cardboard cutout. My sweet sister-in-law gave this to her and knows how much she loves the Biebs (what he is called in our house). This has scared me many times because she keeps putting him around the house.

Cookies

I'm trying this new twist on the traditional chocolate chip cookie recipe because I don't  have any chocolate chips but I do have peppermint bark chips. I just LOVE cookie dough so I wanted to make them with the girls for our Santa cookies but dilemma no chocolate! I picked up a bunch of baking stuff around Thanksgiving time because I knew when I wanted to bake something I wouldn't remember until 6 at night and there is no way I was going out then so stocking up on baking supplies while I saw them really was a time saver for me this year. So back to the cookie making we made the traditional with a holiday twist. They do look really pretty for the season with the little specks of red in them. And the best test of all is when my 3 year old ran off with a cool one and said, " Mama they are so good". Now that's a winning cookie. You can find the recipe here NestlĂ© and the other one we made for Santa and family coming over this week is from the Pioneer women Christmas cherry cookies.

They are both kid approved and ready for Santa tomorrow. Merry Christmas everyone!

Snowflakes for Sandy Hook

It was such a tragedy that our nation faced on Dec. 14th at Sandy Hook Elementary but to help the school, victims, and families the national PTA has started this snowflakes for Sandy Hook. What a great idea! My girls love to craft and so that is what we did all morning and they couldn't stop making them. I have a 1st grader too and so she understood a little how this will impact their school. She wanted to make so many that it would fill up a hallway! I had to get her to slow down a bit but we made about 25 of them and sending them to +Krista Parry at the +Snowmamas so they can send over a big package to the Sandy Hook school. I have been so touched by this tragedy and sitting here many days crying for the families that have lost a little one so close to the holidays but this warmed my heart to be able to do something I'm good at and craft.
Making something for someone else makes my day and I know that some of the victims will never see the snowflakes but it might help the children who were scared to return to school after the holidays. I hope it relieves a little of those fears. So I hope everyone makes a snowflake for them.

Hope everyone has a wonderful and joyous Christmas holiday season. If you want to make your own snowflakes to share visit Snowmamas and that is where you can find all the info.

Crafting

Even though Christmas is right around the corner there is always time for crafting. I picked up these little kits at the craft store the other day and figured they would come in handy soon. The girls were so excited when I brought them out today. We will see how long it keeps their attention.
